- The opposition is finalising a comprehensive migration policy focused on deporting illegal overstayers and addressing what they characterise as frivolous asylum seeker claims.
- Senator Duniam expressed a willingness to collaborate with the government on migration while emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement and policy reform.
- Concerns were raised regarding the education system, noting that record-high per-student spending has not prevented a decline in standards due to a shift away from curriculum foundations.
The opposition is nearing the finalization of a comprehensive new migration strategy, according to Senator Jonathon Duniam. Highlighting a need to crack down on “frivolous” asylum seeker claims, Duniam stated that while the Coalition is prepared to work alongside the government, there must be a firm commitment to deporting those who overstay their visas illegally.
In addition to migration reform, Duniam raised concerns regarding the current state of national education. He noted that despite record-high levels of funding per student, academic standards continue to decline across the board. The Senator argued that the root of the issue lies within the curriculum, suggesting that schools have lost their way by abandoning the essential foundations of learning.
